Fmr. Kyoga County MP candidate Adupa tells Museveni ‘how NRM can regain support’ in Amolatar

NRM supporters and cardholders in Amolatar district, led by former NRM parliamentary candidate for Kyoga County, Felix Adupa Ongwech, have expressed concern over the current political landscape in the area.

This concern comes after all NRM flag-bearers contesting parliamentary seats and the LC5 chairperson were defeated by the opposition.

Adupa noted that the losses contrasted sharply with the overwhelming support President Museveni received from the people of Amolatar district.

In a letter dated June 10, 2026, addressed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Felix Adupa Ongwech congratulated the President on his electoral victory and praised his leadership, which he said continues to transform Uganda through the NRM government.

Adupa mentioned that in the recent general election, Amolatar district gave President Museveni 87.4% of the presidential vote, making it the highest-performing district for the NRM in the Lango sub-region.

Adupa added that the current political situation means that the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) now possesses considerable political influence throughout Amolatar.

With three Members of Parliament and control of key local leadership positions, UPC will have access to substantial resources and political leverage over the next five years, Adupa noted.

He argued that the district’s political leadership is now largely under UPC control—a development he warned could pose a significant challenge to the NRM in the coming years.

He further stated that such resources could be used to strengthen UPC grassroots structures and further consolidate the opposition party’s influence in the district.

To address this challenge, Adupa appealed to President Museveni to consider appointing dedicated NRM cadres from Amolatar and other districts to various government and political positions, noting that it is now very difficult for them to effectively mobilise and maintain support for the ruling NRM party.

He continued that such appointments would help maintain the party’s grassroots structures, facilitate mobilization, and preserve the confidence of NRM supporters across the district.

“This request is founded on the principle that districts which consistently stand with the NRM and deliver overwhelming support to the presidential candidate should not be left politically vulnerable,” Adupa stated.

He further noted that supporting loyal cadres through appointments would not only preserve the party’s presence in Amolatar but also demonstrate that loyalty, commitment, and electoral support are recognized and rewarded.

Adupa also noted that if no deliberate intervention is made, UPC may use its current advantage to further entrench itself within the district, and thereby weaken the NRM’s organizational structures.

However, with strategic support and empowerment of loyal cadres, the movement can maintain its strong grassroots support and successfully recover its political positions in future elections.

Goody Otoo, a cadre from Amolatar, said, “More such support would enable NRM leaders in the district to continue defending the achievements of the NRM government, counter opposition influence, and prepare the ground for reclaiming parliamentary seats and local government positions in the next election cycle.”

This appeal comes at a time when political parties are assessing their performance and strategising for the next electoral cycle following the 2026 general elections.
