Lira | At least 20 amputees from the Lango sub-region have received prosthetic limbs through a collaborative initiative between Suman Foundation and Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
The donation is aimed at restoring mobility, dignity, and independence among persons living with limb loss.
The prosthetic limbs were carefully fitted and calibrated by the Orthopedic Department of Lira Regional Referral Hospital under the leadership of Raphael Omodi before being officially handed over to the beneficiaries on Friday, June 20, 2026.
The beneficiaries comprise individuals who lost their limbs as a result of road traffic crashes, workplace injuries, and medical amputations necessitated by conditions such as diabetes and other severe infections.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Venkatesh Manepali, Manager of Suman Foundation, commended the leadership and staff of Lira Regional Referral Hospital for fostering a strong and productive partnership that has enabled the successful implementation of the initiative.

“We are grateful for the collaboration and commitment demonstrated by Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Through this partnership, we have been able to reach individuals whose lives can be transformed through access to prosthetic care,” Manepali said.
“Our goal is to restore hope, mobility, and opportunity to those living with disabilities,” he added.
Representing the Hospital Director Dr Andrew Odur, Emmanuel Ogwang, the Hospital Administrator, expressed appreciation to Suman Foundation for its continued support and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations.
“Lira Regional Referral Hospital remains committed to working with development partners, charitable organizations, and other stakeholders to expand access to quality healthcare services.
“We appreciate Suman Foundation for choosing to support our patients and communities through this life-changing intervention,” Ogwang noted.

The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to both Suman Foundation and Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Some who spoke noted that the prosthetic limbs will significantly improve their mobility, restore their confidence, and enable them to engage more effectively in social and economic activities.
