Oyam South gets ambulance from Ministry of Health

The Member of Parliament-elect for Oyam County South in Oyam district, Patrick Ogwang Obura, has handed over a brand new ambulance to support emergency response.

He secured the ambulance through a letter dated March 12, 2026, addressed to the Ministry of Health, requesting the ambulance for the people of Oyam County South.

Speaking while handing over the ambulance to Oyam District leaders on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Kamdini Health Center III in Kamdini town council, MP-Elect Ogwang stated that he wrote a letter directly to the Ministry of Health through Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.

ambulance He requested her intervention by presenting the plight of the people of Oyam County South.

Ogwang lamented that Oyam County South has over eight sub-counties, with 33 parishes and more than 100 villages, where the need for a sound and functional ambulance cannot be overemphasised.

He added that Oyam has been relying on the QUAM project ambulance at Aber Hospital, which is often overwhelmed and suffers from frequent mechanical breakdowns, making it unable to cover the massive population.

Obura is the first NRM Member of Parliament elected to represent the people of Oyam County South in the 12th Parliament.

He finally promised to add two more new ambulances for Minakulu and Loro sub-counties, plus fuel for this ambulance within two months.

“Now the election is over, let us come and unite ourselves in developing our district and Lango at large,” he said.

Oyam district LC5 chairperson, Benson Dila, praised Obura for being sociable and active among leaders. He requested Members of Parliament from the entire district of Oyam to collaborate and ensure that at least one of the 18 health centre IIIs allocated in Oyam South, is upgraded to a health center IV.

Dila also appealed to the incoming government to allocate a budget for the maintenance of the brand new ambulance so that it does not break down while operating across the district.

Oyam District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Thomas Malinga, urged the local community to support the movement of the ambulance by providing some resources for fuel.

He also encouraged the community not to stay at home with their sicknesses because this ambulance has come at the right time to save lives.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Oyam District, Fredrick Habert Kitutu, announced that the district will recruit a driver for this ambulance and appealed to the MP to continue lobbying for an ultrasound scan machine.

Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Oyam, Sgt. Shilaku James, immediately ordered the CAO to allocate some funds for the maintenance of the ambulance, while warning health workers to avoid using the ambulance for transporting dead bodies.
