UWA introduces Rhinos to the Kidepo Valley National Game Park

Uganda Wildlife Authority(UWA) has reintroduced Rhino Kidepo Valley National Game Park atheirr its extinction in 1883.

The first two rhinos arrived at Kidepo Valley National Game Park Park on March 18, 2026, with than more six more expected to arrive at the game park by March 21, 2026.

The reintroduction of the rhinos is fundedthe Northern Rangeland Trustrust the Wild Landscapeape in Kenya and Uganda Conservation Foundation.

The arrival of the rhinos now completes the big five animals whicomprise lion, cheetah, buffalo, leopard and rhino. These are a major tourist attraction in Uganda.

The community liaisliaisoncer for KidepKidepo Valley National Game Parktine Oryem, co, confirmede development to tndNews, Uganda, saying the two rhinos have arrived in perfect health.

He added that their movements will be restricted untill they get acquaintewith d with the environment.

Oryema is sure that the reintroduction of rhinos will boost Kidepom in Kidepo and now appeals to the surrounding community to remain vigilant and report anybody wiValley National Park.

These rhinos are primarily based at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for breeding, with active reintroduction efforts currently expanding to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Kidepo valley national park is located in Karamoja and boarders South Sudan and Kenya. It is over 700 kilometers from Kampala, the Capital of Uganda.
