Stakeholders urge unity and development after elections in Adjumani

Leaders and key stakeholders in Adjumani district have called on politicians and their supporters to move beyond election-related divisions and focus on development and unity within the community.

The appeal comes in the wake of concluded electoral processes, with leaders emphasising the need to set aside political differences and work collectively for the progress of the district.

Opi Suru Simon Baru, the Paramount Chief of the Madi Cultural Institution, urged politicians to prioritise development and cooperation, noting the importance of unity in a small community like Madi.

“I want appeal to all the politicians that elections are over, you should focus on development because madi is very small so you need to work together.”

Similarly, Oloya Jackson, the district council speaker of Adjumani, emphasised that elections should not create enmity among leaders and citizens.

“You see when you contest in elections you are not enemies. I don’t know why people fight each other. It is ideas present your ideas. So, elections are over. Let us now come together. We need to create unity and stability.”

Adding her voice, Ababiku Jesca, the Woman Member of Parliament for Adjumani, reaffirmed her commitment to serving all people equally, regardless of political affiliation.

“But as I say, I will not politicise my services for the people Adjumani. I will make sure serve without boundaries. And my colleagues, elected leaders, this is time for development. Let’s concentrate and grab from the national cake.”

Meanwhile, the Resident District Commissioner of Adjumani, Toko Swaib, called on the public to let go of past grievances and embrace a fresh start.

“The elections have ended, and I call upon people we wave off the grades of the previous elections to start a new chapter. Let’s not carry the bad images of the past.”

The leaders collectively stressed that unity, stability, and a shared focus on development are essential for transforming Adjumani district and improving the livelihoods of its people.
