Man fatally assaulted in Kole over card game dispute

Police in Kole are investigating a fatal assault that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man following a dispute over a card game.

The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, at around 10:00 pm in Atek “B” village, Alemi parish, Ayer sub-county, Kole.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, the report was filed on March 4, 2026, at 1:16 am by Ogwal Tom, a 77-year-old peasant farmer and resident of the same village.

The deceased has been identified as Oboga Felix, 35, a male peasant farmer of the Alango tribe and also a resident of Atek “B” village.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was at Olila Tonny’s Bar in the village when he became involved in a disagreement with another man, identified as Omodi Denis.

The two were playing a game of cards for money when the argument escalated into a physical altercation.

During the fight, the suspect allegedly picked up a brick and struck the victim on the right side of his head. Following the assault, the victim was taken home, where he collapsed and died shortly after arrival.

The case was registered at Kole Central Police Station. The District Scene of Crime Officer (D/SOCO) and a team of homicide detectives visited the scene.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted.

SP Okema said the police have recovered the brick used in the assault as evidence and have recorded statements from witnesses.

Authorities confirmed that the victim sustained a fatal head injury from the brick. Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large, he added.

SP Okema confirmed that efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect are ongoing as investigations continue.
