Kotido Secondary School has devised tough measures aimed at improving academic performance following the 2025 UACE dismal performance.
According to the results released on Friday, 135 candidates of the 235 got 1 to 3 principal passes. The majority got only one pass.
This means that 100 candidates failed or do not qualify for university or tertiary education and they will have to repeat or enrol for certificate courses if they want to further their education.
Following such a dismal performances, the school management has come up with several measures.
Head teacher, Emmanuel Lokedi, said among the measures, teachers have been tasked to register daily lesson attendance until the time of UNEB registration and that only those who have been regularly attending lessons will be allowed to register for the national examinations.
Other measures include heightened supervision of teachers by the school administration, and automatic suspensions for students who leave schools without permission.
The poor performance has been attributed to students dodging lessons, absenteeism and lack of commitment.
Most students reportedly failed because they chose science subjects despite being poor at them.
He further explained that the political season made it worse when most of the candidates joined politics as campaign agents and gave much of their efforts into politics rather than concentrating on academics.
Napio Veronica, whose son studies in Kotido SS, says that the performance will greatly improve only if the new measures are strictly adhered to.
