Kole South villages receive maize seeds from MP Boniface Okot

Member of Parliament-elect for Kole South, Boniface Henry Okot, who currently serves as the current youth MP for Northern Uganda, has swiftly begun fulfilling the campaign pledges he made to his local community.

His actions mark a decisive start to his tenure, focusing on tangible support for his constituents.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, Okot officially launched the distribution of maize seeds across all 243 villages in Kole South. Each household is set to receive 10 kilograms of maize seeds, an initiative designed to bolster agricultural productivity among local farmers during this planting season.

While addressing the community, MP Okot outlined his vision for his constituency. “My vision for the people of Kole South is to lift my community out of poverty, to boost our collective wealth, and to enable our parents to afford and pay their children’s school fees on time,” he stated.

He emphasised that this goal would be achieved by supporting farmers with essential materials and tools.

The MP also used the opportunity to counsel the beneficiaries, urging them to resist the temptation of selling the free items. “I condemn that old practice. Let us concentrate on farming and plant all these maize seeds at the right time,” he advised.

“If we do this, in two to three months, you will be harvesting from your gardens.” He disclosed that he has invested over shs150 million to procure the Longe 5 maize variety for his people.

Patrick Dominic Akor, the head of political assistant to MP Okot, reassured the public that all campaign promises would be addressed systematically. “All the promises made by Hon. Okot during his campaign will be worked upon one by one,” Akor stated.

He noted that other initiatives, such as the process of repairing boreholes, are already underway, alongside plans to support churches and schools. “Regarding the maize seeds, we started with this process because the first planting season is currently underway,” he explained.

He encouraged all beneficiaries to register their names with their Local Council Chairpersons to ensure a smooth and transparent distribution process.

Residents who spoke to journalists expressed their gratitude for the MP’s swift action. “This is the kind of leader we want—one who fulfills his pledges immediately after the election,” said Susan Atim Odongo, a resident of Abeli Parish in Akalo Sub-county.

Her sentiment was echoed by Thomas Obira from Ayer sub-county, who thanked MP Okot for his timely intervention. “I had no money to buy maize seeds this season, but Hon. Boniface Okot has come at the right time to rescue the people,” he said.

Jimmy John Okello, from Te Obia village in Bala town council, praised the MP’s character, stating, “Hon. Okot is a true leader who cares and has love for his people. This is what we expect from our elected leaders.”

The event was concluded with a blessing from Rev. Geoffrey Ocen of Dam Atira Church of Uganda. While blessing the maize seedlings, Rev. Ocen offered a word of encouragement to the MP.

“I request Hon. Okot to continue working for the poor with the same spirit he has built,” Rev. Ocen said. “As long as he has the capacity, he should keep going, for God will reward him abundantly.”
