Dr Obote College alumni to organise reunion and networking event to support the school

Dr Obote College, a renowned and prominent secondary institution in Uganda, is spearheading efforts to reconnect its alumni across all generations in a bid to foster unity, strengthen networks, and support the rebranding of the school.

Under the theme “Reconnecting for Excellence, Unity and the Future of Our Alma Mater,” the alumni association has organized a reunion scheduled for May 2, 2026, at the school campus located in Boroboro, Lira City East Division, Lira City.

According to the alumni chairperson, Prof Ario Otema, the gathering aims to bring together former students from different generations to celebrate their shared heritage and strengthen bonds.

Dr Obote College“This important gathering seeks to reconnect alumni across all generations, celebrate our shared heritage, promote networking among members, and mobilize support for academic, co-curricular, and infrastructural development of Dr Obote College,” he said.

Prof. Otema added that the reunion will also focus on charting a strategic direction for sustained alumni engagement and rebuilding a strong alumni association structure.

The day’s agenda will include registration and networking, election of alumni leadership, formation of national and diaspora chapters, discussions on priority development areas, and the launch of alumni support initiatives such as mentorship programs, scholarships, and infrastructure development projects.

Prof. Otema noted that Dr Obote College has historically been a leading institution in producing scientists in Uganda. While academic standards may have declined slightly over time, alumni are now committed to restoring the school’s former glory.

The school’s headteacher, Rev Dick Alengo, revealed that the institution currently has an enrollment of about 1,000 students, including 102 female learners.

“At Dr Obote College, we are promoting science education. That is why construction is underway for a modern four-storey laboratory to strengthen science learning,” he said.
