Dokolo woman MP Aguti urges parents to raise children with strong moral values

Leaders in Dokolo district have called on parents, women, and local communities to play a greater role in shaping the district’s future by embracing government programs and actively participating in family leadership, financial matters, and politics.

MP Sarah Nyakori Aguti made this statement on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Dokolo Primary School in Dokolo town council. The event was a belated celebration of International Women’s Day, attended by over 2,000 people from various sub-counties, town councils, and learning institutions.

MP Aguti pledged to improve academic standards across the entire district for both boys and girls without any form of segregation, so that future generations remain grounded with strong pillars of resilience.

She encouraged all parents in the district, especially mothers, to teach their children domestic skills in order to reduce early teenage pregnancies among young girls.

The MP added that early teenage pregnancies and high rates of domestic conflict among parents can still be stopped through mutual understanding and by reporting matters to the appropriate authorities.

She promised to follow up with Parliament and the Ministry of Local Government to ensure that Dokolo attains municipality status after presenting all the requirements needed for government approval.

Aguti also awarded different groups of people, including journalists, civilians, women, men, and pupils, with goats and chickens to help lift them out of poverty.

The event was held under the theme for this year: “Scaling Up Investments to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.”

Kwania district woman Member of Parliament, Kenny Auma Lapat, who also attended the celebration, stated that Members of Parliament work for everyone in the country, regardless of political affiliation—whether from NUP, FDC, NRM, UPC, or independents.

She said their goal is to empower women so that poverty is eradicated within local communities, especially among mothers.

Auma donated 30 bags of cement to support the construction of a new girls’ toilet at Dokolo Primary School. She noted that since joining Parliament, most of her work has focused on young girls, but in this term, she will concentrate on mothers, because a family without a mother cannot progress.

She appealed to both parents and children to love one another in order to stop early teenage pregnancies and high rates of domestic conflict.

Bernard Opige, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), said the government is currently doing a lot to support women’s projects, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). He encouraged all mothers to focus on such projects to help their families overcome poverty.

Stella Adero, chairperson of the Women’s Council for Dokolo District, who also serves as the female workers’ councillor, thanked the NRM government under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for granting women leadership roles, ensuring that women’s voices are respected across the country.

Adero also noted that there is currently a high level of domestic conflict between parents and their children, which is affecting children’s education, with the situation standing at 70%.

The most affected areas include Okwongodul and Amona, which have registered high rates of early pregnancy among young girls.

Additionally, she highlighted low performance in government-aided primary schools due to a shortage of teachers, which she said is affecting results in the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).

Kia Florence Elupe, chairperson of finance at Dokolo district council, who represented the LCV Chairperson, announced that both women and men are treated equally. She noted that the government has introduced many programs to support women, as they are prioritized in the country.

She added that although the enrollment of girls in education remains low, the district is working to increase the number of girls to prevent deaths of child mothers through unsafe procedures. She noted that earlier this year, the district lost several child mothers below the age of 18 due to such complications.

Addressing the women during the Women’s Day celebration, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Barbara Akech, thanked the people of Dokolo district for giving 82.4% of their votes to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

RDC Akech also thanked the NRM government for giving women in the country the opportunity to celebrate their day freely and access justice under the Constitution.

The RDC stated that mothers often do not receive timely justice because matters are not reported to the right places. She encouraged all parents to allow both boys and girls to concentrate on education, noting that only 33% of children in Dokolo district are currently attending schools across the district.

She also pointed out that the district continues to experience high rates of domestic conflict between children and their parents. In the last three months, she said, six murder cases were registered.

She called upon all community members to work with security personnel to prevent such deaths.
