Alumni of Elia Olet primary school, Lira plant trees to create an evergreen environment

More than 30 old boys and girls of Elia Olet Primary School in Lira City have come together, demonstrating that they can still give back to the school that raised them.

The group has also unveiled ambitious plans for the future.

These former pupils, who now work as doctors, teachers, businesspeople, lawyers, and engineers, made their commitments known on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, during a visit to the school. Their visit was aimed at making the school better than when they were studying.

Speaking to the current learners, Jacob Okello, chairperson of the association who sat his Primary Leaving Examination in 2013, encouraged learners to study diligently.

Okello, who currently works with ROKO Construction Company Limited, emphasised to the learners that their education comes first and that other good things will follow after the successful completion of their studies.

Chairperson Okello added that parents are now seeing value for the money they invest in their children’s education at Elia Olet, and that they got the school completely different with very significant changes.

And that all these are attributed to good administration and management.

Okello appealed to all those who have succeeded since the school was established, as well as any well-wishers, to come and support the association in elevating the current standard of education.

He stressed that the association aims to bring on board everyone who has passed through the school, regardless of their current location or status, because their goal is to better the school in all ways.

Andrew Obete, the former head boy who is now a teacher, said: “It is good to remember where you come from if you have forgotten where you are going.”

“I am therefore calling upon those who made it with us in the same year to look back and appreciate the teachers who have raised the standard of education at this school, whether you got jobs or you are jobless.”

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the school’s management, Sarah Aol De Aloi, the head teacher, thanked and appreciated the association’s initiative to bring together everyone who has succeeded from this great school.

Additionally, she thanked parents for trusting the school with their children and that they have made the right decision, one they will not regret.

Elia Olet Primary School has produced only first and second grades for the last three consecutive years and there is hope for a better performance this year.

She further noted that in the 2026 academic year, the school has a total of 1,570 learners, supported by both government and parents’ teachers together with the support staff.

It is evident that the school has greatly improved in academic performance, smartness, discipline, and school development, with committed teachers under the leadership of  headteacher Sarah Aol De Aloi.
