Kampala | Nsangi police have intensified efforts to combat crime in Kyengera and surrounding neighborhoods, leading to the arrest of 32 people accused of theft and other criminal acts.
The operation covered areas including Kyengera Central, Nabaziza, Masanda, and Kinaawa.
Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that authorities are carefully screening all those arrested to determine individual responsibility for criminal activities.
“Some of the suspects will be released if evidence is insufficient, while others will be processed through the courts,” Owoyesigyire explained.
The police confirmed that the suspects were implicated in stealing from residents along major roads, breaking into homes, and forcibly taking money, phones, and other valuables.
The operation is part of a wider strategy by the Uganda Police Force to curb the growing insecurity in the area.
Residents welcomed the crackdown, noting that nighttime thefts and attacks had become a serious concern. “We are grateful to the police for taking action. Life at night is now a bit safer,” said a local trader.
Police have encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest police post, emphasising that community cooperation is critical for sustaining peace and security in Kyengera and its neighbouring areas.
