Police in Kwania district are investigating a case of murder of a peasant farmer Apio Everlyn, 50.
Apio’s murder was reported to police by Ngura Nelson, 51, a peasant farmer and clan chief of Arak Ongoda clan who resides in Alach “B” village, Ogwil parish, Ayabi sub-county, Kwania district.
The murder occurred on February 15 at around 11am at Aweiwot trading centre, Ogwil village, Ogwil parish, Ayabi sub-county.
It is alleged that the deceased had gone to demand payment of shs 7,000 for maize from Alobo Flavia at her produce shop. In the process, a quarrel erupted between them.
During the altercation, Alobo Flavia allegedly assaulted the deceased and was joined by Oyom Edmond, who also slapped her from behind.
Following the assault, the deceased returned to her home and remained there until about 6pm when her condition deteriorated.
Her son rushed her to a nearby drug shop for treatment but her condition worsened and she later died at Alac village, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said.
SP Okema added that the matter was reported at Ayabi Town Council Police Station and later recorded at Kwania CPS as murder.
A team of officers led by IP Dila Maxwell, OC Station Ayabi Town Council Police Station, D/AIP Ocan the Scene of Crime Officer, D/AIP Ogole Joseph OC CID Ayabi, and other uniformed personnel visited and examined the crime scene.
The scene was processed and documented through photography, sketch plans and note taking, and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses.
Police medical forms 48A and 48B were issued and duly filled as part of postmortem examination. The body of the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary where postmortem examination was conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
No arrests have been made yet, but efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects are ongoing, the PRO, SP Okema, added.
He stated that “as police we remain committed to ensuring that the suspects are arrested and brought to justice” – also calling on members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with police by providing any information that may assist in the ongoing inquiries.
Since the year began, police in North Kyoga region has registered more than 10 murder cases across Lango sub-region. The figures continue to worry stakeholders.
Police, on their part, have continued to promise justice for the victims and their families. This, always take time.
