Amolatar electoral supervisor under investigation over aborted LC3 poll

Akwon sub-county in Amolatar district is set to hold an election for the LC3 seat with an official date yet to be announced.

tndNews, Uganda understands that the supervisor for Akwon, Alele Makoni is being blamed for the postponement.

The publication can also report that he’s currently under investigation for not delivering all the necessary electoral materials to the polling stations on polling day, February 4.

The presiding officer for Aromi polling station in Alongo-Obutara Aromi parish, Ongom Felix, said Alele received the polling kits from Akwon sub-county on February 4, 2026, in the morning.

However, upon inspecting the kits at the polling station, the ballot papers and declaration forms for the LC3 chairperson were absent.

He later reported that Alele Makoni arrived with five booklets of ballot papers but did not hand them over to him, which impeded the voting process for the direct subcounty councillor, as this problem was not limited to that particular polling station.

He noted that voting began at 12:30 pm.

Residents at the polling station indicated that Alele Makoni arrived with the ballot papers at 3:30 pm and urged them to vote, but they declined.

Ogwal Anthony, a candidate from the National Resistance Movement, while overseeing the election, visited Alongo trading centre at the Aromi polling station and discovered that the ballot papers for LC3 were also missing.

He stated that he received a call informing him that the subcounty supervisor, and GISO of Akwon sub-county, Olobo Simon, were at a hotel in Aromi trading centre with the ballot papers.

By 6:30 pm, Alele was still inside the hotel while numerous residents were waiting for him, necessitating police intervention to address the situation.

Irene Hope Nakiru, returning officer of Amolatar, said she withheld declaring the winner due to irregularities.

Akwon sub-county has Ayaa Robert for PFF, Ogwal Anthony Bile for NRM, and Engola Patrick for UPC.
