Oyam | The election of Oyam district woman MP has been brought into the spotlight – with influential personalities cited for interference.
On January 15, at least 103,458 votes were cast for the district’s woman MP candidates, Jane Frances Acilo Nkya and Santa Alum Ogwang.
Out of the total votes cast, Omona Joseph, Returning Officer for Oyam, announced that Alum obtained 64,064 votes while NRM’s Frances obtained 39,387 votes.
There were a total of 1,960 rejected or invalid votes, according to Omona.
Following the declaration, candidate Acilo made a reflection on the poll. In a statement issued this week, she extends her sincere gratitude to the people of Oyam for their trust and for courageously participating in the electoral process.
However, she noted, “credible reports that a number of my supporters were subjected to intimidation, physical violence, and coercion.”
