Elections2026: NRM’s performance in Kole district – who takes credit?

Kole district has delivered a decisive electoral sweep for the National Resistance Movement (NRM), with over 90% of its candidates winning seats.

The overwhelming success follows the parliamentary elections held on January 15, 2026, and the local government elections on January 22, 2026, conducted as per the Electoral Commission’s roadmap.

In the parliamentary polls, NRM candidates emerged victorious. For Kole North, Dr Samuel Opio Acuti won with 26,933 votes (81%), defeating Judith Alyek who garnered 5,038 votes (15%).

In Kole South, NRM’s Eng. Boniface Okot, the incumbent Youth MP, secured victory with 16,904 votes against UPC’s Peter Ocen, who received 10,228 votes. Sandra Aceng of the NRM also won the district Woman Representative seat.

The NRM’s victory was consolidated on January 22 during the district-level elections. All NRM candidates for councillor positions won with high voter totals.

The contest for district chairman was claimed by NRM’s Eng. Moses Oteng with 19,124 votes (70%), followed by UPC’s Denis Obol with 17,248 votes.

This result completed a clean sweep for the NRM from the grassroots to the top leadership in the district.

NRM leadership in the district expressed gratitude for the outcome. Ayo Nixon, NRM chairperson for Akalo town council, thanked the people of Kole, particularly those in Akalo, for electing NRM’s Godfrey Mule and Betty Akello Monday, among others.

Addressing journalists at the Kole tally centre on January 23, the chairman-elect, Eng. Moses Oteng, commended the district NRM chairperson, Lillian Anyati, for her pivotal role in coordinating the party’s successful campaign from the parliamentary level downwards.

He also thanked the voters of Kole for using their democratic powers to choose leaders of their choice.

This sweeping victory fulfils a pledge made by NRM district chairperson Lillian Anyati to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his campaign visit to Kole on January 8, 2026, that all NRM flag bearers would emerge victorious.
