URA tells Dokolo people to meet tax obligations

Speaking on Monday, December 15, 2025, during an engagement meeting held at Dokolo Council Hall, Dokolo town council, Clare Sangu, Supervisor of Stakeholder Relations for Northern Uganda, said they were creating awareness, strengthening relationships, and receiving feedback concerning the operation of the Uganda Revenue Authority in the area.

Sangu appreciated the political leaders and local government authority for their great involvement in revenue mobilisation in their area of jurisdiction.

Robert Wamala, a facilitator from URA, appealed to people to embrace tax payment and ensure all documentation related to the Authority is well kept. The taxes, he said, boost the country’s economy.

He appealed to the meeting participants and the whole of Dokolo to pay taxes to the local government and to the URA to increase social service delivery among the locals.

The meeting facilitator, Wamala, further appealed to businessmen to practice record keeping to realise the progress in profits or losses during their business activities.

Granfil Oryono Omonda, Chief Administrative Officer of Dokolo appealed to local business communities to adopt the culture and attitudes to pay taxes for a better development of the district.

Abel Ekol, chairperson of the Business Community in the Dokolo town council, urged URA officials to open a new branch to ease accessibility. He further appealed to business people to always have a positive response to URA.

David Adim Awany, LCIII chairperson of Kwera sub-county, Cavine Tapi, sub-county chief of Okwongodul sub-county, and Felix Orono, a boda boda rider were among participants who spoke at the meeting.

They decried the lack of induction to URA operations, and delays in remittance of revenue by URA, which is greatly hindering the effective implementation of many projects.

Babra Akech, Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo appealed to leaders to be the ambassadors and advocates for tax payment in their different areas.

RDC Akech appealed to URA to engage the fishing communities to boost revenue mobilisation.
