UPDF brigade has donated an engine boat and 31 life jackets to the residents of Bata Island in Adeknino sub-county, Dokolo district to ease the accessibility to social services.
Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo Babra Akech confirmed the UPDF’s donation in an interview on Friday, December 19.
Akech noted that the donation will help the community to access health facilities, school, market and other basic facilities which were difficult to access cheaply.
She, however, warned the responsible authority to desist from misusing the boat by extorting money from the community, selling petrol donated.
The RDC directed that nobody should be asked to pay money for crossing the water because it is free.
Frederick Ogwal Owiny, LCIII chairperson of Adeknino sub-county said the donations will help the vulnerable people to access service delivery freely.
He added that the sub-county will form the committee that will be responsible for monitoring the functionality and operation of the engine boat.
Tonny Okwir, LC1 chairperson of Bata Island village in Awelo parish, applauded the UPDF for rescuing the lives of the area.
Okwir said initially, it was very tiresome and difficult to access social services due to inadequate transport systems in the area.
