Gulu City | Police in Aswa West have arrested 41 suspects in connection with the assault and looting that rocked Gulu City Centre on December 6, 2025, during campaign activities by National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
According to police, the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation conducted on the night of December 18 across Gulu City and its surrounding suburbs.
The operation relied on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other intelligence networks to identify and track down suspects allegedly involved in the violence and theft.
All 41 suspects are currently detained at Gulu Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations continue.
Police spokesperson for Aswa West, ASP Ongom David Mudong, said among those arrested is Aleng Fatuma, who is alleged to have played a key role in mobilising suspected criminal gangs.
Police claim the mobilisation was carried out using various media platforms, including TikTok.
“These operations will continue until all accomplices are apprehended,” ASP Mudong said in a press statement, adding that police had earlier pledged to summon or arrest anyone found culpable.
The December 6 incident left several traders counting losses after property was reportedly vandalised and looted amid chaos in the city centre as crowds gathered for the campaign.
Police have urged residents of Acholi sub-region to remain calm, assuring the public that all those responsible will be held accountable.
“We promise to have all those culpable brought to book so that justice prevails for all,” ASP Mudong said.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
