The Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission in Amolatar, Irene Hope Nakiru, praised the nominated candidates for MP seats on Wednesday for their commendable efforts on nomination day.
On day one, October 22, Nakiru nominated a total of seven candidates, among them Okodo Peter, contesting for the Kyoga North constituency seat, Dr Agnes Atim Apea for the women’s MP seat, Carlos Opul for the Kyoga county seat, and Collins Angwech, also for the Kyoga county seat.
Others were Okot Bitek Moses for the Kyoga county seat (incumbent), Felix Adupa Ongwech for the Kyoga county seat and Geoffrey Ocen for the Kyoga North constituency seat.
Shortly after her nomination, Dr Agnes Atim expressed her intention to follow up on the President’s promise regarding the tarmacking of Amolatar road and to ensure that funds allocated from the central government to local government are utilised effectively.
Meanwhile, Peter Okodo stated his commitment to ensuring that every household escapes poverty while also enhancing education, health, and infrastructure for the residents of Kyoga North constituency and Amolatar as a whole.
Angwech, on the other hand, pledged to advocate for additional projects for the people of Kyoga County, leveraging her experience as an MP to garner support for her lobbying efforts.
Carlos Opul also indicated his focus on improving agricultural practices, business opportunities, and trade networks for the voters of Kyoga County.
Felix Adupa stated that Kyoga has not witnessed any development in the past five years and asserted that he is the right candidate to bring about change.
Okot Bitek emphasised that his reason for running in the election is to safeguard the mineral resources and land for the voters of Kyoga County, as well as to aspire to become the next Speaker and President.
Geoffrey Ocen stated his intention to advocate for the removal of restrictions on the lake and to propose a bill aimed at reducing MPs’ salaries while increasing compensation for teachers.
The nomination process will continue on October 23, 2025, with candidates such as Atala Winny Lillian for woman MP on an independent ticket, Auma Kenneth for the same seat on UPC ticket.
Others to be nominated on the last day are Alone Dorcus for the same seat on independent ticket, Onyum Denis for Kyoga county on NUP ticket, and Olobo Dubai (incumbent) for Kyoga North constituency on independent ticket.
