Karamoja | In the wake of his recent election victory at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, Dr. Lokii John Baptist, Member of Parliament for Matheniko County in Moroto district, has issued a strong call for love, peace, and unity across the region as the nation looks toward the 2026 general elections.
The call comes as excitement and celebration in the Karamoja sub-region continue following the election of their son Lokii as NRM vice chairperson at CEC for Karamoja. Delegates elected him with a resounding 3,694 votes, representing 81%.
Lokii John was formally declared by Dr. Tanga Odoi. The declaration ceremony took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Speaking to tndNews on Saturday, August 30, 2025, MP Dr. Lokii expressed his profound gratitude. He appreciated all NRM delegates from across the country who trusted him with their votes, enabling him to achieve the milestone of becoming the party’s vice chairperson for Karamoja.
Lokii also extended his gratitude to the party national chairperson, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for fostering a robust comprehensive democracy in Uganda. He credited the President’s leadership for creating an environment where everyone has the opportunity to elect leaders of their choice.
Additionally, he thanked the NRM secretariat for executing its duties in a professional and impartial manner throughout the electoral process. “I have achieved my goal not because I am good, but because of the trust that the people have placed in me. Let us unite ourselves to build our country, Uganda,” Lokii stated.
He added: “I am now the voice of the NRM in the Karamoja region.” He affirmed that this voice resonates loudly and clearly, as the trust was granted to him by delegates from every corner of the region who expressed their preference for his leadership.
Dr. Lokii is widely recognized as a devoted leader with a strong commitment to serving the people of Karamoja. His vision, locals say, is focused on progress and community development, and he has pledged to instigate positive change throughout the entire region.
The new CEC member expressed his commitment to collaborate with the government in addressing poverty levels in Northern Uganda, particularly in the Karamoja region and the surrounding districts.
This will be achieved through lobbying for additional funding under government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Operation Wealth Creation, among others.
In addition to combating poverty, he said he will also work alongside security forces to ensure a significant and lasting peace throughout the Karamoja region and beyond.
