Jane Frances Acilo promises health coverage in Oyam

As two days of free medical camps came to an end at Loro Health Centre III and Oyam Boma Ground on Wednesday, Jane Frances Acilo promised “more of the same” nearer to the people in the near future.

Organised under her Jane Acilo Foundation, the medical camps recorded thousands of people who sought diagnosis and treatment for different health issues.

At both venues, eye checks, dental checks and extraction; antenatal and ultrasound services, cervical cancer screening and HIV testing were offered.

Those with eye issues were given recommended glasses worth shs100,000 – free of charge.

Speaking on Monday at Oyam Boma Ground, Jane Frances Acilo, the NRM flag bearer for Oyam district woman MP race in 2026, said the Foundation’s main focus is education and health.

Alongside partners like civil society organisations, religious and cultural leaders, and the government, she said Oyam district should expect more health and education initiatives.

“Today is the second day of the medical camp and people have come in overwhelming numbers,” she said at Loro Health Centre III on Wednesday.

On their initial plan, she said 1,000 people were planned per day. “On day one alone, we received more than 2,000 people. Today, they have also come in huge numbers and this shows that there is a health service demand in our community.”

The OPD tent had overwhelming numbers.

“I would like to let the people of Oyam know that as Jane Frances Acilo Foundation, we are standing with the masses on health. We are coordinating with partners at a high level. Partners like C-Care Foundation, IHK and the Ministry of Health. The district health team gave us 20 Doctors, C-Care and IHK gave us 80 Doctors.”

In total, she said Oyam had 100 Doctors providing health care at the two venues. “The demand is there, figures are high and we will continue to plan and organise this people-centred program on health,” Jane stated.

She stated that if God allows, and resources permit, more health camps would be held closer to the people. “We have intentions to reach the masses in the entire Oyam district.”

Dr. David Mulopa, a trailblazing leader and visionary educator, founder of the “I Can Leadership Institute Africa and CEO of I CAN4IR,” from South Africa, promised more support to the Jane Acilo Foundation.

Dr. Mulopa and his delegation flew into the country nearly two weeks ago to offer a keynote speech at the launch of the Jane Acilo Foundation and Leadership Conference. He has promised to “do all it takes to ensure Jane Frances Acilo is elected as a woman MP” of Oyam district.

“This is truly a blessing,” Dr. Mulopa said of the health camps while at Loro Health Centre III. “When I see powerful men and women like this coming down to meet the needs of the people I get emotional because I know there is a future for Africa.”

“We honour you for this vision and may Almighty God continue to lift you, to attach His blessings upon your lives so that we can continue to do this not only for those who are here but for the children.

“On behalf of all at the I CAN team, we commit that we will be here again, again; again and again until we take this woman to become the MP for Oyam district,” Dr. Mulopa pledged.

“I came here to get medical support and I would like to tell Jane Frances Acilo to continue helping us. We want health services and to be healthy. Health is our wealth,” Evaline Angom, a resident of Anyalu village, Adyeda parish, Loro sub-county, told tndNews.

“Do not stop at health. Help us with other social issues,” Angom urged.

Beatrice Akullu, the in-charge of Loro Health Centre III, said the camp provided other services which were not available at the facility. She cited the eye and dental services and physicians for cases that the facility was not able to handle.

“First and foremost, I am deeply humbled and touched by the trust the people of Loro always accord to the medical camps that are organised. This is not the first of its kind, we have always had medical camps organised by the district, we have also had medical camps organised by different implementing partners and surely the turn up is always big.

“However, this one in particular, there are so many exciting things the community has to receive. Today, to their excitement they are getting out with a record book and all the prescribed medications.

“That’s the difference I have with this medical camp, and to some extent reduced the number of medical supplies we would spend as a facility because they (Jane Acilo Foundation) had to carry along with theirs,” the in-charge said.
