Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel from Alpha Battalion arrested a 24-year-old man in Lamwo district on 7 July 2025 after discovering a full set of unauthorized UPDF military items in his possession.

The recovery occurred during a night foot patrol at approximately 8pm.

The suspect, identified as Charles Okot, is a resident of Irumo village, Ngasino parish, Agoro sub-county, Lamwo district.

Following thorough interrogation on 8 July 2025 at around 11pm, Okot led UPDF forces to a location where he had concealed additional weapons and military gear.

The recovered items include, the following: One SMG Rifle (No. 56-121201110) with six (06) rounds of ammunition, one bayonet, one UPDF belt; one UPDF t-shirt

Others are one bionet and one South Sudan military uniform.

Preliminary findings indicate Okot is a known criminal in the area. The arrest followed an altercation on Sunday night at a bar in Irumo Parish, Agoro sub-county, where he allegedly returned with an AK-47 rifle and fired multiple shots into the air after a fight with patrons.

No injuries were reported.

Lt. Col. Mubangizi Ipolito, Commander of the 1 Dumisha Brigade, commended local residents for their cooperation with the UPDF.

He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting Ugandan citizens and their property.
