“Talk and work”: My update on the Lira-Kamdini road rehabilitation

lira Kamdini road

All last week, I took a tour of the Lira-Kamdini road that is under reconstruction arising from the protest campaigns code named “re-construct Lira-Kamdini road” that I organized in 2022.

The protest led to the abrupt visit of President Museveni to Alidi Primary School (my birthplace and school) to respond to my loud shouts and protests which had caused my arrest, detention and loss of my mobile phone.

The joint meeting which attracted Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) and other local leaders resulted in The Alidi Declaration (TAD) of 2022 calling for the immediate commencement of the reconstruction works on the 67 km Lira-Kamdini road.

Road works have been going on well amidst other challenges like;

•The narrowness of the road.

•The erection of rumble strips and humps in busy locations.

•The works on walkways for pedestrians

•The installation of road signs and symbols.

•The extension of Corporate Social Responsibility by Mota-Engil through the Ministry of Works and Transport, etc.

•Lastly, the lack of sensitization of road users on proper use of the highway (road) which is now prone to careless crashes.

Arising from the above, I petitioned the Ministry of Works and Transport and Mota-Engil Company to consider the above issues before road works come to an end.

While I am following my letter with the relevant authorities, I am urging the road users and our people who live along the highway to take keen interests in managing themselves while using that “international highway” in order to reduce the number of road crashes (accidents) arising from recklessness.

I am equally preparing a day to celebrate the struggles and sacrifices that forced President Museveni, Members of Parliament of Lango and the entire government to respond to the Demands and Civil Campaigns of my people over service delivery.

I am so far overjoyed that there is:

•a reduction of road carnage except carelessness of road users,

•no more breakdown of vehicles on road,

•increased level of roadside businesses for local people and;

•huge revenue collection by URA/government,

•no more dust and dirt with adverse effects on the health of the people along and using the road.

I Congratulate my team members and now we await the Appreciation and Rewards from the people of Lango and government of Uganda for the dedication and sacrifice to champion services for the good of the common people. The government of Uganda as empowered citizens of Uganda.

I am very happy and grateful for the response by the government and the work of the Mota-Engil Company.
