Jane Acilo: “I’m running to restore trust, create grassroots income”

Jane Frances Acilo

Kampala | On Wednesday June 4, Jane Frances Acilo picked nomination forms ahead of NRM party primary elections.

She has added her name to the list of 33 others from Lango who picked forms on day one (June 2) from the NRM electoral commission team stationed at the party secretariat in Kampala.

Acilo, who last year announced her interest in the Oyam district woman MP seat in 2026, looks optimistic to be elected the party flag bearer for the legislative seat.

Speaking shortly after picking forms, she said: “I have picked up my nomination forms because Oyam is ready for visible leadership, economic transformation, and real change that reaches every home.

“I’m running to restore trust, create grassroots income, and put education and agriculture back at the center of our progress. Together, we will build a future rooted in dignity and opportunity.”

On June 4, she officially began her journey to represent the people of Oyam as the Woman Member of Parliament. “This is more than just a political step, it’s a commitment to walk with you, serve you, and build alongside you.”

Often, she has made it clear that the journey to transform Oyam is a “collective one,” and that she’s committed to wealth creation through commercial agriculture.

Oyam is one of the “poorest” districts in (Lango) Northern Uganda with vast majority of the population rural residents – according to The Citizen Report.

Another study by R Discovery in Oyam found a positive contribution to poverty reduction, suggesting that targeted intervention can have a significant impact.

From the above studies, Jane Acilo’s mobilisation and wealth creation efforts may help Oyam jump out of the poverty line.
