Beneficiaries of Jane Frances Acilo maize seeds, now branded “Jane-zee maize,” expect bumper harvests

Jane Frances Acilo

Oyam | Two months ago, Jane Frances Acilo began “commercialising agriculture” in Oyam district by providing farmers with Naseco maize seeds.

On the first day of the lunch, she donated 1,000kg worth shs10 million and shs1 million in cash to women attending the belated Women’s Day celebrations in Kamdini town council, Oyam South.

On March 29, she expanded the maize seed donation to include Abok sub-county.

That month, Jane Frances Acilo, who is running the become the next Oyam district woman MP in 2026 on the NRM party ticket, announced plans to donate 15,000kg of Naseco maize seeds.

Farmers in sixteen (16) lower local governments, including sub-counties and town councils, were selected to benefit from the initiative and share 15,000kg of the seeds.

“This is just the beginning, we are committed to investing in sustainable agriculture and empowering farmers to grow beyond mere subsistence,” Acilo said in March.

Two months later, the recipients of her maize seed assistance are thrilled and ready for bumper harvests.

Okaka Alfred, LC1 chairperson of Wigweng village, Alutkot parish in Loro sub-county, is overjoyed.

“I’m happy for the maize seeds Jane Frances Acilo gave me,” he said. Okaka said the forthcoming NRM primary elections for “Acilo is clear without any problem.”

A woman named Miriam stated, “The Jane-zee maize seeds have produced well. Two corns per stem.”

“I expect good harvest. The maize corns are as beautiful as Acilo,” she added.

Another beneficiary, Olola Tarantino, praised Acilo’s generosity and stated that he is currently mobilising the elders and youths to vote for her.

“She (Acilo) is not a liar, she’s truthful and that’s why we will vote for her,” he said. “I pray that she remains healthy and go to Parliament to represent us.”

“My maize is doing well, very healthy because it was not attacked by pests.”

As the NRM primary elections and the 2026 general elections approach, Jane Frances Acilo’s message to the people of Oyam district to pursue commercial agriculture remains “constant.”

Acilo recently encouraged thousands of pilgrims from the Lango sub-region and Oyam district in Matugga to pursue commercial agriculture when they return home.

The pilgrims, especially those from Oyam, thanked Acilo for supporting them as they trekked to Namugongo Martyrs Shrines for the 140th commemoration on June 3.
