Arts’ strike, UNSA gives Amolatar CAO deadline

unsa

The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) secretariat in Amolatar district has given the Chief Administrative Officer of Amolatar, Samule Paul Mpiiwa, a deadline of no later than June 23, 2025.

The ultimatum is to ensure that all arts teachers return to the classrooms.

In a letter dated June 19, 2025, the students’ body is demanding a clear explanation from the CAO, who supervises the teachers, regarding the ongoing suffering of students despite the teachers receiving their salaries and the students having paid school fees.

They are also urging the CAO’s office to take action and reinstate teachers in the classrooms before June 23, 2025.

Furthermore, they stated that if this does not happen, UNSA will seek alternative measures by mobilizing themselves to exercise their constitutional rights.

Ayen Rapheal, the UNSA district chairperson, confirmed this resolution.

Additionally, the district coordinator of UNSA Amolatar, Olwit Alfred, mentioned that he has visited most schools in the district and found that students are very frustrated, especially since many have already paid their fees.

As well, the district speaker, Grace Apili, noted that the most affected students are those preparing for their mock exams, adding that if the CAO’s office fails to provide a clear resolution, it could lead to serious consequences for some schools.

Currently, arts teachers are on an industrial strike following the government’s refusal to enhance their monthly pay like that of their counterpart science teachers.
