LThe National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission officially opened an expression of interest exercise on Monday for members seeking to run for parliamentary, district chairperson, and city mayoral seats on the party ticket in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, chairperson of the NRM electoral commission, officially launched the exercise on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat on Plot 13, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero.

“We call upon all candidates to strictly adhere to the guidelines set out in the NRM roadmap,” Dr. Odoi stated. Isaac Odongo Ekuu, the first aspirant for Kyoga North County in Amolatar district was issued the nomination forms.

Odongo, who paid a mandatory shs3 million for expression of interest fee, expressed confidence in his bid.

“I am the first to pick the forms, and with the faith I have, I will win both the primaries and the general election,” he said.

He urged fellow NRM aspirants to uphold unity and avoid internal divisions.

“We don’t want division in our NRM party. Let us unite during both the primaries and the general election, and eradicate segregation within our party”, he added.

Odongo vowed to address long-standing issues of poverty and underdevelopment in Amolatar district.

“For many years, Kyoga North County has suffered extreme desperation; not because of a lack of leaders, but because our leaders have failed to lobby effectively. I have come to rescue my people in the 12th Parliament,” said Odongo.

He stressed Amolatar’s strategic position in Uganda and the untapped potential it holds.

“Amolatar is located in the heart of this country, yet our leaders have not used this advantage to attract development. We, the people of Amolatar, have suffered for many years.

“We need leaders who will effectively communicate our challenges to the government. I have come to win, not to fail,” he sounded.

Elsewhere, Opito Moses also picked nomination forms as his plans to transform Oyam South remain high. Speaking later on Monday, he said, “This is the first phase of our success.”

Opito has promised to represent the interests of the people of Oyam South and ensure their “voice is heard more loudly than ever” in the 12th Parliament.

The NRM nomination period will run from June 2 to June 15, 2025. Aspirants are required to present proof of payment of the expression of interest fee and submit a signed expression of interest letter to qualify.

The NRM party primaries for all MP aspirants, LC5 chairpersons, Lord councillors, mayors are scheduled to take place on July 16, 2025.
