On Tuesday, May 27, a section of NRM delegates in Amolatar district became agitated before electing district party executives.
Olwit Camilo, Ocen Leo, and the incumbent James Olobo Dubai were all nominated for the NRM district chairperson position.
With everything set for their election, including that of workers’ executives, chaos broke out, with Dubai and her supporters becoming “wild and provocative.”
The chaos prompted Ojok Henry, the district registrar, to postpone the workers’ election until Wednesday, May 28.
Ojok told delegates that the date for the mainstream elections would be announced after Wednesday.
He did later announce that the mainstream election had been postponed until further notice.
The NRM elections in Amolatar were scheduled for Friday, May 23, but were postponed until May 27 due to electoral related complaints.
The election was interrupted on May 27 by Olobo Dubai, who stated that “it can not take place without workers’ league election.”
Prior to the postponement, Olobo Dubai was seen attacking Prossy Langol, the ONC regional coordinator for Lango, who said she had been dispatched on the ground by Dr Tanga Odoi.
Odoi is the NRM electoral commission chairman.
Langol was tasked with monitoring and reporting on the district elections.
She told reporters that Dubai attacked her “directly at the gate” and demanded that she be removed from the election venue.
“He was vulgar!” she said. “If I recall correctly, we were told not to share our data with anyone while working on voter updates for the NRM register.”
She added: “We were directed not to work with any candidates who would want to get our data…but then Dubai wanted our data and I told him in case he wanted the data he should go to the office (Kampala) and ask for it.”
Langol said there was no way she would share any data with Dubai. “So, I think that is what annoyed him and he takes me as his enemy.
“As an employer of the Office of the President, I am supposed to be neutral, I work with anyone. NRM should leave out the idea of “help me hate so and so.”
