On Sunday, May 25, 2025, a fundraising event organized by Apac PAG Town Church raised shs13 million to roof their long-stalled church building.

The church, located in Industrial Ward, Market Street Cell, Atik Division in Apac Municipality, received a shs5 million cash contribution from Maruzi County MP Maxwell Akora, who attended the event in person.

While delivering his sermon, Rev. Noah Akochom Onyum expressed gratitude to MP Maxwell Akora for his support and urged the people of Apac Municipality to elect leaders who prioritize God.

“Without God, our vision cannot prosper,” he said.

Rev. Onyum noted that many elected leaders in Apac neglect thanksgiving services but suddenly draw closer to the church as elections approach. He praised Akora for his consistent engagement and declared interest in running for Apac Municipality MP in the upcoming elections.

MP Maxwell Akora told the congregation that leaders have a duty to support the construction of God’s house using resources entrusted to them.

Akora further stated that Apac Municipality needs a leader who genuinely loves the people, which is why he has decided to step forward.

“For years, our municipality has stagnated under unstable leadership—someone who claims UPC allegiance but serves NRM interests,” he said.

“My decision to contest comes from the people’s call,” Akora added. “There is a leadership gap in UPC’s representation here. The current MP disregards party principles, yet UPC’s roots trace back to Apac. We cannot let one individual destroy our party’s legacy.”

During the same event, Susan Achola Engola, an aspiring UPC candidate for Apac district, contributed shs500,000. Achola, who is gaining strong grassroots support ahead of the elections, called for issue-based, peaceful politics.

“Let us embrace unity, forgiveness, and love in our campaigns,” she urged. “The people of Apac believe in me, and I trust I will represent them in Parliament come 2026. For now, let us rally behind Hon. Maxwell Akora’s efforts to develop Apac Municipality.”

“Hon. Patrick Ocan, whose constituency this is, did not attend. The District Woman MP, Hon. Betty Engola, was absent but sent a pledge of 500,000 shillings,” the Reverend disclosed, saying, “Hon Maxwell Akora honoured my invitation.”

Reverend Onyum consistently commended Akora for his responsiveness and urged voters to elect leaders who prioritize divine guidance. “A leader who ignores God cannot properly steward the people’s vision,” he emphasized.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Maruzi County MP stressed the church’s role in community transformation. “Beyond worship, we must champion education.

“This church should establish a school within this complex to shape future generations,” he proposed, drawing applause from the congregation.

The legislator also addressed Apac’s political landscape, criticizing the current leadership. “Our municipality’s stagnation stems from leaders who abandon party ideals.

“As a loyal UPC member, I’m heeding the people’s call to restore principled representation,” Akora stated, referencing UPC’s historical roots in Apac.
