The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Monday successfully conducted parish-level elections across Lamwo district.

The ruling party, NRM, is currently holding elections for internal party structures across the country. In some places, chaos reigns supreme and accusations fly.

In Padibe town council, elections were completed in all five parishes: Atwol, Gangdyang, Mura, and Kuluywe.

Party members turned out to elect leaders for various structures, including the mainstream leadership, women’s league, youth, elders, persons with disabilities, and veterans.

In Gangdyang parish, Ogwete Florence was elected as the mainstream chairperson, while Lanyero Molly was chosen to lead the women’s league.

Okeny Peter will represent persons with disabilities, and Oketayot Alfred, Okello Walter, and Oyet Daniel will serve as representatives for the elderly, youth, and veterans, respectively.

In Kuluywe parish, Komakech Morish was elected as chairperson. Alanyo Nighty will lead the women’s league. Lamara P. was selected as the elder’s representative, with Okot Ceaser, Rubangakene Kenneth, and Langoya Emmanuel elected to represent persons with disabilities, youth, and veterans, respectively.

Mura Parish elected Nyeko David as the mainstream chairperson. Olana Alice will lead the women’s league, while Gum Fred, Odida Ben, Okello Denis, and Guci Patrick were elected as youth, elder, PWDs, and veteran representatives, respectively.

Ochola Boniface, the registrar for Gangdyang parish, described the elections “as smooth and problem-free” since the process began on April 24 with expressions of interest and nominations at the village level.

According to the NRM election schedule, campaigns for LC1 flag bearers and village party structures began on May 1, 2025.

Elections for these positions took place on May 6, 2025. Sub-county structure elections will be held on May 16, followed by district conferences on May 25.

Nominations for aspiring Members of Parliament, LC5 Chairpersons, and District Councilors will take place on June 17, 2025. Elections for MP flag bearers are scheduled for July 16, 2025.

The National Delegates Conference, where Central Executive Committee members and the Presidential flag bearer will be elected, will be held on August 20, 2025.

The successful conduct of these elections marks a significant milestone for the NRM as it prepares for key leadership selections in the lead-up to the next national elections.
