Elia Olet teachers receive tokens of appreciation for academic achievement

Lira City | Elia Olet Primary School in Ireda Lumumba, Lira City East Division, honored its teaching staff at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Friday.

Teachers were recognized for their outstanding performance, which helped propel the school to second place among 27 government-aided primary schools in the division.

The School Management Committee (SMC), chaired by Chris Alele, presented tokens of appreciation in the form of envelopes to all 23 teachers for their transformative work over the last two years.

“This gesture is to motivate our teachers who have shown remarkable dedication in the classroom, leading to improved academic results,” Alele stated before parents and guests at the AGM.

Elia’s headteacher, Sarah Aol, highlighted the school’s progress since her appointment two years ago: Enrollment increased from 600 to 1,200 pupils, and in the 2024 PLE, nine candidates received division one, 41 received division two, and two received division three.

Aol stated that their goal for 2025 is for all 79 candidates to achieve division one.

“Our partnership with parents has been key to this success,” Aol noted, while appealing for support to construct a perimeter wall to shield pupils from roadside distractions.

The headteacher expressed concerns about pupils being poached by private schools like Saving Grace, traffic hazards near the school compound, and the need for better infrastructure to support learning.

Lira City East Division Mayor George Okello Ayoo pledged to provide more desks and learning materials.

Okello also stated that he will work with the Ministry of Works and Transport to install zebra crossings and speed bumps near the school.

Lira City Senior Inspector of Schools, Tom Ronald Omara, warned school administrators.

“Transparent financial management is non-negotiable. Regular parent meetings to review budgets and expenditures are mandatory for all government-aided schools,” he stated.

He added that parental involvement is critical, with parents attending the Annual General Meeting praising the teachers’ efforts and promising to pay their fees on time.

Parents also urged faster implementation of road safety measures.

With renewed motivation and community support, Elia Olet Primary School hopes to maintain its high academic standing, improve infrastructure and safety, and foster stronger parent-teacher collaboration.

“When teachers are valued and supported, they can work miracles in our children’s education,” said Alele.
