Sacred Heart SS in Gulu and Masindi SS cricket girls’ teams have advanced to the national cricket schools’ competition.
Following a thrilling regional tournament in Gulu City, the two schools will compete at the national level.
On April 5 and 6, 2025, they reached the finals and qualified for the national tournament.
Six teams (schools) competed in the regional tournament: Secret Heart from Gulu, Gulu High, Masindi SS, Masindi Army, Pece Secondary School, and St Mary’s Magdalene from Lira City.
The top three teams were awarded trophies, with St. Mary’s Magdalene, Sacred Heart, and Masindi SS being recognized as the best teams in their districts and cities.

St. Mary’s Magdalene impressed with their cricketing abilities, defeating Railway Seed School (girls) of Lira in the district competition on April 1 and 2.
Sandra Acora Can-dwong, regional cricket operations manager and St Mary’s Magdalene coach, said the tournament highlighted the growing talent in girls’ cricket.
She cited teams such as Masindi SS and Sacred Heart SS for demonstrating their abilities.
St. Mary’s Magdalene, according to Acora, gained valuable experience and is optimistic about their future performance in tournaments.
Acora stated that, despite the success, some schools experienced financial difficulties in transporting their participants.
She noted that the challenges had an impact on school participation, with only six (6) schools reporting and competing in the regional tournament out of eight.
The national cricket competitions are starting on May 3, 2025.
