Lamwo NRM registrar calls for integrity and fairness in upcoming elections

The NRM district registrar of Lamwo, Okwera Osboron, has called on sub-county electoral commission officers to remain honest and truthful as they conduct elections.

Okwera made the remarks on Tuesday during an interaction with sub-county election registrars at the NRM electoral commission offices in Padibe town council, Lamwo.

He emphasized that “when you handle internal elections well and avoid compromise, it will reduce the number of independent candidates who emerge in the final election.”

Okwera further warned that any sub-county registrars found engaging in electoral malpractice would face dismissal and disgrace, adding that such actions tarnish the reputation of the ruling party, which has led Uganda for many years.

Lamwo district NRM administrator, Oceng David Ocan, underscored the importance of discipline among party leaders, stating that it will strengthen the NRM and keep it attractive to voters in the years to come.

With the electoral commission’s roadmap for the 2026 general elections now in place, Oceng urged electoral officers to prepare for upcoming party activities, such as the election of party structures and the verification of NRM electoral registers.

This, he said, would ensure that they are not caught off guard.

The NRM district chairperson, Okeny Mark, also stressed the importance of fairness and honesty in delivering the mandate entrusted to party leaders.

He stated, “The people chose us to serve them, and we should therefore strive to fulfill our mandates without fail.”

Okeny also challenged the registrars to remain neutral in case of misunderstandings among party members, urging them to unite and harmonize all party members.

“Don’t take sides when there are disagreements,” he advised.

Okeny instructed sub-county registrars to be present in their offices, ready to address the concerns of loyal party supporters.

In line with preparations for upcoming elections, the NRM district election officers (Registrars) were reminded to uphold integrity and high moral standards.

The electoral roadmap for 2025-2026 was released yesterday, starting with nominations for elections at the village level and LC1 chairperson elections.

In a meeting presided over by the NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, registrars from across the country were warned against being manipulated by aspirants through gifts or monetary rewards.

Todwong emphasized the high stakes involved, stating that the integrity of NRM leadership at the sub-county and district level would be tested.

He appealed to them not to be compromised, saying, “You will be accused, whether rightly or wrongly. Stand for what is right.

“I would rather you be accused of standing with the truth than be swayed by falsehoods.”
