Lira | On Valentine’s Day, Sam Engola, Senior Presidential Advisor on Lango Affairs, donated shs6 million to Myek Women Farmers Cooperative Society Limited.

The contribution, he stated, is intended to support the cooperative’s efforts to increase agricultural productivity and improve its members’ livelihoods.

This grassroot cooperative is made up of women farmers who have been at the forefront of promoting sustainable farming and economic empowerment.

The cooperative focuses on crop cultivation, livestock farming, and agro-processing, giving its members a platform to market their produce and get better prices.

During a ceremony held at the cooperative’s headquarters in Oberoyere village, Abunga parish, Bar sub-county, Lira district, Engola emphasized the importance of supporting women-led agricultural initiatives.

“Women are the backbone of our agricultural economy, and empowering them is key to achieving food security and economic growth,” Engola said. “This donation is a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots organizations that are making a tangible difference in their communities.”

The money he donated will be used to purchase modern farming equipment, high-quality seeds, and fertilizers, as well as to train cooperative members in advanced farming techniques.

Cooperative members also intend to expand its agro-processing unit, allowing the women to add value to their produce and reach higher-income markets.

Ogwang Isaac, chairperson of the Myek Women Farmers Cooperative Society Limited, expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the donation would have a significant impact on the cooperative’s operations.

“We are deeply grateful to Senior Presidential Advisor Sam Engola for this generous contribution. This support will go a long way in helping us improve our farming practices, increase our yields, and ultimately improve our standard of living,” Ogwang said.

Local leaders and community members have praised the donation, describing it as a step toward addressing the challenges that women face in agriculture, such as limited access to resources and markets.

The cooperative leaders stated that with the support of leaders such as Sam Engola, they are poised to have an even greater impact on the agricultural sector and the lives of their members.

It was founded in 2022, with an initial membership of 30 people. By 2023, the membership had grown to 125, and currently, it has surpassed 648 members.

Geoffrey Opio Belmos, the Secretary of the NRM for Bar sub-county, has encouraged the community to consider Engola when casting their votes in the 2026 general election.
