Police in Vurra, Arua district, have arrested a mother accused of severely torturing her four-year-old child in Embeva village.
According to West Nile Region Police PRO SP Asea Collins, the suspect allegedly burned the child’s private parts as punishment for urinating on her clothes.
The incident, which is thought to have been sparked by a family dispute over insufficient household resources, has shocked the local community.
SP Asea describes the case as “heart-wrenching,” emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable children from abuse.
“The police are deeply concerned, and will ensure justice is served because every child deserves love, care, and protection.”
The victim is now in medical care and is receiving assistance to recover from the physical and emotional trauma.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody at Arua District Police Station while investigations under CRB 028/2025 continue.
The Arua police are urging the public to be vigilant and report any signs of child abuse to the authorities.
“Together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our children,” says SP Asea, reinforcing the significance of community responsibility.
