Amolatar | At least 1,521 primary seven candidates in Amolatar district who are preparing for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) scheduled for November 2024 failed their mock exams.
The failures account for 53.7%. 1,521 of the 2,648 candidates who sat at 47 government-aided and four private primary schools in Amolatar district were in “Division U.”
According to district officials, approximately 92 candidates did not take the exam.
Josephine Acen, the district education officer, announced the results on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Division 1 produced 62 outstanding candidates, accounting for 2.3% of the total.
Furthermore, 294 (11.4%) candidates passed in Division 2, 189 in Division 3, 469 in Division 4, and 92 received an X grade.
The majority of Division 1 candidates come from top private and government schools such as Upland Nursery and Primary School (5), Green Valley (23), Amolatar Primary (7), Burakwana Primary School (6), Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School (3), Aweiwot and Arwotcek (3), and Aburkidi, Opir, and Wabinua (2).
Awelo Otira, Alfa, Adonyoimo, Adwal, and Namasale Primary Schools have one each in Division 1.
Josphine Acen stated that some students had difficulty reading and writing.
“We believe that some candidates were underprepared for the exams,” she told tndNews.
She encouraged head teachers to take an active role in ensuring that students receive the best possible support from their teachers by closely monitoring their progress.
Acen added that candidates with special needs in Amolatar district will be assisted as directed by UNEB, but expressed concerns about errors in the ‘braille version’ of the Mock exams due to time constraints.
Acen, the education officer, expressed her dissatisfaction with the lack of preparation for oral assessments for candidates with special needs, emphasising the importance of early identification by head teachers to ensure adequate preparation.
Ogwal Christopher, the head teacher of Upland Primary School, which is ranked first in the Mock exams, stated that their performance this year was better than the previous year.
He stated that as a school, they had not been shining because they lacked a centre number.
Emmy Awongo, Director of Green Valley Nursery and Boarding Primary School, expressed optimism about the results, noting that 23 of 48 candidates were placed in Division 1, 24 in Division 2, and one in Division 3.
Awongo continued, saying that they are prepared to enhance the performance as needed.
