Wisdom high school director urges Lango parents to support local schools

Wisdom High School in Akalo town council, Kole district, has come out to advocate for educational standards in the Lango sub-region.

Through its executive director Ambrose Ogwal, Wisdom is leading in mobilizing parents and stakeholders to support the improvement of education standards particularly in light of the new curriculum development.

In an interview with tndNews on Friday, Ogwal urged parents in the sub-region to enroll their children in local schools to achieve better academic performance.

He emphasized that most schools in the area are now well-equipped with educational materials, laboratory apparatus, and other necessities to support quality education.

Ogwal emphasized the significant progress made in the Lango education system over the last 15 years, stating that the sub-region’s academic performance, particularly in private schools, has improved dramatically.

He also attributed this success to the availability of internet access, well-equipped science labs, and ongoing teacher training on the new curriculum.

Wisdom High School, which opened in 2019, has seen consistent growth in academic performance. Starting with a small number of candidates achieving Division One, the school has steadily progressed, with its students now excelling in national examinations.

In the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, the school celebrated its best candidate, who scored 7As. Ogwal revealed that this student had joined the school with an aggregate of 16, showcasing the school’s commitment to value addition.

He also commended other schools in Lango, including St. Gracious Nursery and Primary School (headed by Dr. Olet Patrick), St. Kizito Nursery and Primary School, Truth Fountain, and Saving Grace Nursery and Primary School, for their contributions to improving education standards.

Ogwal, a former director of studies at Namilyango College and an experienced teacher and examiner, emphasized the importance of discipline and spirituality in shaping students’ character. He noted that Wisdom High School has maintained a peaceful environment, with students focusing on their studies and engaging in spiritual activities like prayer.

The school has also made strides in co-curricular activities, recently ranking 11th nationally in boys’ football during a competition in Masaka. The ED encouraged parents to visit the school and inspect its facilities, including laboratories and libraries, to witness the improvements firsthand.

Ogwal announced that Wisdom High School is now admitting Senior Five students, marking another milestone in its growth. He also called on parents in the Lango sub-region to support local economic development by investing in their children’s education.

Judith Akullu, a 38-year-old parent from Ewal Ward, in Lira city praised Wisdom High School for its academic excellence and adherence to the new curriculum.

Sam Odongo, a parent and resident of Okwerodot sub-county in Kole, expresses his gratitude to the school’s owner, emphasizing the importance of private schools in improving our region’s educational system.
