Kampala| On Wednesday, May 8, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) recovered a cache of weapons belonging to Allied Democratic Force (ADF) terrorists.
The weapons were discovered in Sector 3 near River Talia Bridge in North Kivu Province, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Major Bilal Katamba, Public Information Officer of UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa says.
During the joint forces’ intelligence-led operation, one piece of a 160mm mortar and two rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers were recovered.
Additionally, one RPG shell, one submachine gun (SMG), seven rounds of PKM, and one round of SMGs were recovered.
“The weapons are believed to have been hidden by the running rebels mid-last year when they were flashed out of Mwalika Valley by the joint forces and scattered northwest of the Beni Komanda road in Ituri province,” says Major Bilal.
On May 7, 2024, one ADF terrorist was killed and one SMG was recovered by joint forces in the general areas of Masizi, 10 kilometres northwest of Boga, in Ituri province, Sector 2 under Colonel Jackson Kayanja.
According to Major Bilal Katamba, the joint forces are still pursuing ADF terrorists in all four sectors in which they operate.
ADF terrorists have always found their way into Uganda despite increased security measures and deployment.
Last year, they destroyed a school in the Kasese district and killed innocent students.
