“Practise what you preach” – Eng. Dr Odongo Okune told

Odongo

Lira | Two men who were arrested by Police in March 2021 on the orders of Eng. Dr Moses Micheal Odongo Okune (the leader of Tekwaro Lango at that time) is now challenging his actions.

The pair, Polycarp Desmond Omor and Anthony Olobo and Obadah Ceaser were arrested for allegedly co-writing and circulating an offensive document against the Engineer.

“We did not write, the document was just forwarded. We don’t know who authored it,” Omor told tndNews.

Omor was arrested from Mbuya and taken to the Police’s CID headquarters in Kibuli.

“I spent 3 days in detention and was later given a Police bond late in the evening,” he recalled.

Obada and Olobo were also arrested and later given a Police bond.

“We kept reporting to the Police for nearly 6 months. On October 6, 2021, we were taken to Buganda Road Court and read charges.”

They had earlier been charged with the Computer Misuse Act and Libel. Both denied the charges.

However, Obada would later ask for a pardon from the complainant. tndNews understands he was directed by the complainant to write an apology.

In his written apology, he was told to, among other things, “recognise the complainant as Won Nyaci of Lango and that he would work closely with him”.

“We were approached and given the same strict conditions. We know we are innocent and need the Court to deliver justice,” said Omor.

Olobo also agrees with his co-accused, Omor and they believe that justice will prevail in their favour.

The Computer Misuse Act was quashed by the Constitutional Court and the suspects now say: “We thought all the charges would be dropped since they look alike.”

On March 1, Eng. Dr Odongo was elected by a section of clan leaders. Others elected not to participate in that election.

After that he (has) promised to work with everybody – for Lango and to forgive.

“He’s preaching forgiveness but there are people he has been tormenting and embarrassing on fake charges,” said Olobo.

“Practise what you preach. Regardless, we are waiting for you in Court,” the pair said.

They appeared before the Buganda Road Court on March 19 this year. Their next appearance before the same Court is on May 23, 2024.
