How Amolatar school began producing reusable pads

Pads

Amolatar I Angwech Collines, the country director of Far Away Friends, has launched a project at Namasale Technical School to produce reusable sanitary products (pads) for women and girls in Amolatar.

Angwech claims she has been purchasing thousands of pads from Kampala in recent years and distributing them to girls in order to keep them in school.

Angwech, who also serves as principal of Global Leaders Primary School in Namasale, Amolatar, has decided to make pads at home, locally.

She has provided Namasale Technical School with the necessary machines and raw materials for pad production. She describes it as one of a kind in Northern Uganda.

As an organisation, she stated that it was difficult for girls to afford pads, which is why she chose a machine to help produce them and distribute them to all girl children in the organisation.

The same pads, she reveals, will be sold at a reasonable price to those outside the organisation, but the main goal is to help girls stay in school.

Angwech, who is running for Kyoga County MP in 2026, added that she will not only produce reusable sanitary pads but will also work on building classrooms, toilets and laboratories.

Ogwal Moses, Namsale’s head teacher, expressed gratitude to Far Away Friends for selecting his school through their country director. He stated that the project will benefit people in Amolatar.

He added that students had been trained and had already created many pads that could last a year before needing to be replaced.
