A look into Dr. Jane Aceng’s three-year contributions as Lira City woman MP

Lira City woman Member of Parliament Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero is one of the top performers in the 11th Parliament.

She is serving her first term and is now in the third of the five years allotted by the Constitution.

Dr. Aceng, the top paediatrician who also serves as Minister of Health, has excelled not only in the health sector, but also in a variety of other areas to benefit her constituency.

Her office has released her interventions (accountability) in the education and sports sectors since she took oaths to represent and serve the people of Lira City.

On Sunday, her office said the accountability is consistent with her pro-people manifesto.

Dr. Aceng provided school supplies including mattresses, suitcases, and soaps to a total of 100 pupils from Lira City’s government-aided schools. The beneficiaries had performed admirably in the 2020 PLE.

The total support for them is worth shs 23.9m.

She has recognised and supported 100 parents and 44 head teachers with kitenge wears for a dress or a shirt. This is valued at shs2.9m.

Furthermore, according to her office, the Lira City woman MP has provided mattresses and suitcases, as well as laundry bar soaps to 200 learners from both government and private schools who excelled in the 2022 PLE. The learners’ support costs shs31.4m.

She obtained textbooks for the new curriculum and distributed them to Lira City’s 27 secondary schools thanks to her lobbying skills. This is in line with her efforts to improve educational quality and performance.

She also lobbied for a complete solar lighting system worth shs25m from Solar Light Africa. This was donated to Nancy School for the Deaf in Lira City. The solar light was installed in the classrooms and dormitories of the school.

Over 560 learners attend the school’s primary and secondary divisions, with nearly 90% of them being deaf.

Dr. Aceng has promoted girls’ education by collaborating with the private sector to create reusable sanitary pads. This was done in collaboration with Plan International Uganda.

Football clubs in Lira City, including Jerusalem Soccer Academy, Lira Sports Club, Rhino Soccer Academy, Abongoden FC, and Awita United FC, have received branded jerseys and balls. Youths were given balls and netballs at the ward level. The ball and jersey sets are valued at Shs3.2 million.

Additionally, she has supported to Fufa drum with over shs14m.

Minister Aceng is enrolling at nursing schools about 20 students.

Her office stated, “Dr. Jane’s performance in the 11th Parliament is still very outstanding and she is ranked among the top most performers based on her deliberations.”
