Memorial tournament held for departed Lira golfers

Lira | More than fifty golfers from different parts of Uganda convened in Lira City on Saturday.

The golfers played a memorial tournament in memory of their departed colleagues and former members of the Lira Golf Club.

Patrick Ouni is the general secretary of sports and Lira Golf Club. He said the main aim of the tournament was to commemorate the fallen brothers.

He identified the fallen members as Dr James Eyul, Wilkinson Okai, Olet Elyak and Professor Opio Ekong.

Memorial tournaments are always organised by golf clubs in every district.

The April 6 tournament at Lira Golf Course comprised more than 20 golfers who have subscribed to clubs from different parts of Uganda.

The Golf Clubs were from Kampala, Arua Jinja, Mbarara, Tororo, and hosts Lira, among others.

Aldo Walukamba, the corporate communication manager of Kinyara Sugar Limited Golf Club spoke to tndNews.

He said Kinyara Sugar Limited supports community social activities and sports in one of them.

Walukamba added that Kinyara Sugar Limited has planned to organise and support two tournaments: Kabalega in June and Kinyara in November but also decided to extend their support to other frananity like in memories of the fallen golfers.

His golf club (company) was the main supporter of the Lira Memorial Golf Tournament.

“We have supported golf for more than 26 years,” said Walukamba.

Each golfer received medals and a packet of sugar.
