Namutumba | In preparation for the 43rd Tarehe Sita Day celebrations, Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) are widely present in the communities in Eastern Uganda.

For weeks now, a series of Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs) have been undertaken by the Forces.

On January 28, Minister of State for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development (Housing), Persis Princess Namuganza, lauded the UPDF for their efforts in giving back to the civilian population, despite having limited financial resources.

She commended the UPDF for its actions, stating that they would greatly contribute to maintaining a positive relationship between the UPDF and the civilian population.

Namuganza was speaking during the launch of the 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary activities in Namutumba district where she urged the residents to actively participate in the activities and equally embrace the medical services that are being offered by the UPDF.

As part of a wider campaign to promote public awareness of environmental protection, the Minister planted a tree at the launch.

Maj Gen Sam Kavuma who represented the Chief of Defence Forces thanked the people of Busoga sub-region for their contribution to the liberation struggle and for offering help to the UPDF in fighting insurgencies like the Holy Spirit Movement of Alice Lakwena.

Maj Gen Kavuma urged them to embrace commercial agriculture since Busoga has fertile soils and the government has constructed good roads.

The good roads, Kavuma said, will help the farmers to take their goods to markets and help them to generate income in their households.

Tarehe Sita for this year will be hosted by Bugweri district on February 6.
