NRM SG Todwong describes corruption as “cancer” in end-of-year address 

Kampala | Per the IGG report, Uganda loses shs10t annually to corruption. The vice has crippled service delivery across all sectors. 

Delivering his end-of-year message on December 19, the Secretary General of NRM, Richard Todwong emphasised the party’s steadfast commitment to eradicating corruption.

Branding it a “cancer” – he said the vice must be confronted at every level of government.

The Secretary-General further outlined “NRM’s robust institutional framework” designed to combat corruption and expressed optimism about the increasing risks associated with corrupt practices in the country.

“Ideologically, the NRM has a zero tolerance to corruption policy, under which it set up a very robust institutional framework deliberately put in place to make the fight against corruption easier,” he said.

Todwong called upon NRM leadership at all levels, from the grassroots to the highest echelons of the Central Executive Committee to actively participate in the fight against the “cancer of corruption.”

To all the accounting officers in the government, he asked them to declare 2024 the year of a total fight against corruption.
