Mbale, July 1, 2023: Teams from State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) and Uganda Police have arrested a top tycoon in Mbale City – the former said on Saturday, July 1.
SHACU says Ismail Walujo, a councillor and secretary of works at Mbale City Council allegedly connived with the former Nakaloke Town Council officials to sell government land approximately 52 acres in Nalaloke.
“The land was subdivided into various plots with Walujo getting the biggest number of plots,” State House added.
The anti-graft unit added that Walujo also grabbed a government school, Umar and Yumbe primary school in Mbale City.

“It is alleged that the school has been made to collapse because he grabbed the areas and set up a washing bay and restaurant.
“It is further alleged that he has been bribing the district education officers to stop following up on the school by not sending teachers and resources there hence the collapse of the school.
“Investigations into the matter are still ongoing,” according to the State investigator.
