Oyam, July 1, 2023: On June 24, 2023, the UPC Secretary General Ebil Ebil received 35 NRM supporters to UPC at Omac primary school. The converts committed themselves to mobilizing support for UPC candidate, Dr Apio Eunice Otuko ahead of July 6 by-election.
Two days later, on June 26, Dr Apio and her team received 20 registered members of the NUP party in Iceme sub-county, Oyam district.
UPC says over 100 members of NRM crossed to the Congress in Abok sub-county on June 30. On the same day at Bario, Abok, Akena and his team also received 20 registered FDC supporters.
This brings the total number of political converts from NRM, NUP and FDC parties to over 175 in six days.
“So far, there is massive support for the UPC candidate and she is receiving warm reception wherever she goes for campaigns,” the head of media and communications, Muzeyi Faizo told TND News last week.
Asked on July 1, what significant roles the new UPC members will have in the party with less than five days to polling, Faizo said, “This proves that UPC is a credible political party that continues to appeal to the rest.”

“However, the central message of the campaign anchored on addressing the issues of poverty, ignorance, and disease has brought them to the party. As we’re consolidating our votes, this is a good momentum and boost that is more likely to be translated into victory on the polling day,” he added.
On Saturday, July 1, UPC president Akena, Dr Apio and her campaign team will traverse Acaba sub-county and Oyam town council before concluding the consultation on July 4.
