UPDF pursuing suspected ADF terrorists after leaving 25 dead in Kasese

Kampala, June 17, 2023: At least 25 students of Lhubirira secondary school in Kasese district were killed after Saturday night attack by the ADF rebels.

In a statement on Saturday, the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said, “Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels, on Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, that is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border.”

Enanga added that a dormitory was burnt and a food store looted. So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. Also recovered are 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital.”

A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police, he said, is ongoing towards Virunga national park.

UPDF starts pursuit

“Our forces are pursuing the enemy to rescue those abducted and destroy this group,” the Defence spokesperson, Brig. General Felix Kulayigye said on Saturday.

“H.E has dispatched the Minister of Education and Sports to commiserate with the school. Meanwhile, the CDF and CLF are joining the Division Commander on the ground for on spot assessment,” he added.
