Bukedea, May 24, 2023: The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has urged all relevant departments and institutions to pay attention to the great work of the village health support groups (VHTs).
The VHTs, she said, improve access to health and other essential services. The speaker met VHTs from Bukedea on Wednesday, May 24, during which she made the call.
Among called upon the people of Bukedea to come together to continue pursuing the dream of making Bukedea “a model district”.
Also the Bukedea Woman MP, Among Anita urged VHTs to embrace the government programs like Parish Development Model to improve household incomes.
To help them improve on agriculture, the speaker donated a number of items including hoes and seedlings to the VHTs.
Today, VHTs have become more important members of society, helping in coordinating people, for example, pregnant women and mothers to get relevant medical information.
Uganda started rolling out VHT program in 2002 and for effective results, each village countrywide is mandated to have four VHTs.
