UPDF captures 1 alive, recovers a gun and cattle in Kaabong district

Kaabong, April 21, 2023: Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), in its quest to restore peace in Karamoja sub-region on Wednesday captured one-armed warrior alive. A gun was also recovered from him.

In a statement issued Thursday, the recovery was done by the 45 Infantry Battalion of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) operating under the 405 Brigade in the North Eastern border district of Kaabong.

“Lemu Loumo, a male adult and resident of Limoruchorong village, Lokerui Parish, Kaabong West sub-county in Kaabong district was captured alive and gun number AEI -1895 with seven bullets recovered after a force of 45 Infantry Battalion had a fire exchange with his splitter warrior group in Kajiri village,” Maj Isaac Oware, PIO of 3 Division said in a statement.

He added that the “captured warrior, Lemu shall appear in courts of law to answer charges on cattle rustling, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition among other counts”.

The cattle rustlers, he revealed had raided 43 heads of cattle from Kacheri sub-county in Kotido, fortunately, due to timely intelligence and close coordination the force was able to intercept and make recoveries in the shortest engagement.

“The recovered cattle shall be escorted to Regen protected holding ground for proper identification and hand over to rightful owners, a process which is normally expedited by area local leadership.”

Maj Oware described the interception as “one of the successful operations this month” as cattle rustlers continue to suffer losses in the restive Karamoja sub-region.

Joint security forces remain committed to the execution of their mandate and conduct of disarmament operations to pacify the Karamoja sub-region, he promised.
